Vintage Tissot Sideral Automatic
Vintage Tissot Sideral Automatic. Ref. 40702. Fiberglass Case. 39mm. Blue Dial.
Offered here is a genuine vintage Tissot Sideral, ref. 40702, produced in the early to mid 1970s. The Sideral was Tissot's landmark model of the era, one of the world's first watches to use a fiberglass case, paired with a stainless steel bezel ring. Lightweight, distinctive, and increasingly hard to find in good condition today.
Case & Dial 39mm fiberglass monobloc case with brushed stainless steel bezel. Deep blue sunburst dial with applied luminous hour markers, "TISSOT SWISS" logo, and "SIDERAL AUTOMATIC" signature. Date window at 3 o'clock with a contrasting orange central seconds hand for a clean, sporty look. Some light scratches visible on the dial, and light marks on the hands, consistent with honest age and wear.
Movement Swiss automatic (self-winding) movement, serviced by a professional watchmaker one week ago and currently holding good time. Date change function works correctly.
Case Back Original fitted case back stamped TISSOT SWISS, FIBERGLASS. No engraving or personalisation present.
Strap Fitted with a period accurate Hirsch strap in a lizard skin style finish. Type/material cannot be confirmed with certainty, so it's not represented as genuine lizard, but it presents as one of Hirsch's premium lines and suits the watch well.
Condition Recently serviced and running well. Dial shows light scratches, hands show light marks, otherwise a solid, honest example.
Why it's special A genuine slice of 1970s watchmaking innovation. The fiberglass case was revolutionary for its time and makes the Sideral a real conversation piece next to more common steel cased vintage divers and dress watches. A great pickup for a collector after something a bit different.
